Advanced Manufacturing Engineering | Level 3 (24 Months)
Are you an enthusiastic young person (16yrs+) with an interest in making stuff / how stuff is made? Want to earn and learn while working in a beautifully converted former trouser factory in Mytholmroyd?
Urban Cottage Industries / Factorylux are a progressive, employee co-owned UK manufacturer. We make and market innovative lighting products for design professionals and consumers worldwide. We’re expanding the scope of our production team to include TWO FULL TIME APPRENTICESHIPS.
This is a unique opportunity to work in a completely new role within a forward thinking, open plan work space. Previous experience of making stuff with your hands is desirable but not essential (we’re a non-traditional manufacturing and engineering set up: fresh approaches are often an advantage).
We’re flexible on start date for the right candidate, immediate start is an option.

BENEFITS:
- Year 1: £4.14 per hour
- Year 2: £4.14 — £7.38 (depending on age) per hour
- Complimentary daily breakfast / lunch (self-serve) provided in staff canteen
- Employment contract offer on successful completion (£8.75 per hour + benefits, regardless of age)

WE need skilled technicians, YOU need serious patience — you’ve got to walk before you can run. Alongside your training (supported by Calderdale College trainers working within our factory), you will be expected to complete sometimes mundane and/or repetitive work. To make the apprenticeship a success, you will need to demonstrate your ability to embrace these aspects of the role with enthusiasm and grace.
ROLE:
Here’s what you’ll be doing over the 2 years:
- Goods in & warehousing
- Picking, packing & dispatch
- Batch, production line and job assembly
- Operating hand tools and machine tools
- CNC processes
- Reading SOP’s & technical drawings
- Photometry measurement and testing
- Working within multiple IT systems
- Safety critical, compliance, testing & auditing
- 5S
- Reporting to Production Manager
